How this crossword works
Folio is a small set of original diagrams. The rules match a newspaper crossword. The grids do not.
Sizes
The mini is 5 by 5 and fully crossed. The daily is 7 by 7, split by a center bar into four chambers of three-letter words. The Sunday grid is 9 by 9, with five islands of three-letter words. A New York Times daily is 15 by 15 and a Times Sunday is 21 by 21. Those sizes are described in the Times guide. They are not the sizes of the boards on this site.
Controls
Click a square and type. Click it again, or press space, to switch between across and down. Arrow keys move and set the direction. Backspace deletes. Tab and shift-tab move through clues. The toolbar can check or reveal a letter, a word, or the grid, turn on autocheck, mark letters as pencil, pause the timer, or clear the diagram.
A finished grid matches the answer key. Letters you reveal are drawn in the accent color so a completed board still shows which squares were filled for you.
What is stored
Progress for each puzzle stays in this browser. The site does not ask you to create an account. Details are on the privacy page.
